Where to obtain records

City of Roanoke Treasurer’s Office

Confirmed office route; online delinquency coverage unconfirmed

Contact the office for delinquent property tax records. This guide does not confirm an online search or current bill list.

How to find the information

The city FAQ specifically directs delinquent-tax bill questions to the Treasurer at 540-853-2561 and locates that office at 215 Church Avenue, Room 254. Request the existing dated unpaid real-estate ledger through that staff route. The Treasurer also administers the city Tax Sale program; sale inventory does not include all unpaid accounts. Roanoke County has a separate office and ledger. Public online delinquent-record coverage remains unconfirmed; this entry confirms the described office or payment route.

Identify the locality, real-property parcel/map or account number, tax years and desired as-of date. Ask for the existing unpaid real-estate collection ledger or dated statement, with the included levies, payments and later costs. Ordinary bills, payment history, assessment land books and yearly taxes-paid summaries have different scope. For a sale, request the dated notice, case number, sale/confirmation record and the appropriate redemption or payoff calculation; ask the collector to identify the special commissioner or Circuit Court custodian. Surplus/excess proceeds are a separate distribution or funds record. Confirm the judicial or nonjudicial procedure and record custodian; do not assume a post-sale redemption period. Incorporated-town levies may require a second collector. Ask for the available existing format and a cost estimate before ordering.

What to ask for

“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Roanoke city for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”

Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.

County-specific notes

Contact status confirms only the stated office route; complete public online delinquency coverage remains unconfirmed. Reviewed October 29, 2026. Some indexed help pages contain legacy screen/browser instructions; use the current office link or staff if navigation differs. No taxpayer searches, logins, account registrations, requests, payments or owner-list republication performed. Availability, historical completeness and current payoff accuracy are not certified.

We help you locate records; we do not store taxpayer lists, determine delinquency, collect taxes, or sell tax liens. Confirm balances, payment status, deadlines, and fees with the responsible office. A tax-sale list is not a complete list of delinquent accounts.
