PROPERTY TAX RESEARCH, MADE SIMPLER
Essex County, Vermont
Where to look, which office to contact, and how to request records.
Where to obtain records
Essex County municipal routing; example: Maidstone Tax Collector / town office
Example: Maidstone tax-records guidanceHow to find the information
Property-tax records are local. The example below covers Maidstone only. For a different municipality in Essex County, use the Office website link to the state municipal directory, identify the city/town where the parcel lies, and ask its clerk or treasurer for the responsible delinquent-tax collector.
For Maidstone property, use its Tax Collector page and contact the town office for delinquency records. The published payment guidance uses the parcel number as the account number and provides a payment portal; its downstream account controls were not tested.
Request an existing delinquent real-property report, year-by-year account history or current payoff, giving the municipality, parcel/account identifier if known, tax years, desired as-of date and preferred inspection or electronic-copy format. Ask which existing record is available and obtain an estimate for copies, extracts or certification before ordering.
What to ask for
“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Essex County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”
Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.
County-specific notes
Maidstone’s 2026 guidance distinguishes a late first installment from the later delinquency stage; do not label every unpaid installment delinquent without confirming the town’s account status. A Guildhall mailing address does not change the property’s municipality. For Unified Towns and Gores property, use the state guide’s unorganized-places section to confirm the responsible office. Essex Town and Essex Junction City are in Chittenden County, not Essex County. Office website: January 2026 state municipal directory. Choose local contacts rather than the separate county-clerk list. Source review verifies access guidance, not taxpayer liability. No taxpayer query, payment, registration or records-request submission was made; no owner-level rows are republished.
