Chittenden County, Vermont
Where to look, which office to contact, and how to request records.
Where to obtain records
Chittenden County municipal routing; example: Burlington Clerk/Treasurer — Property Taxes
Example: Burlington tax-records guidanceHow to find the information
Property-tax records are local. The example below covers Burlington only. For a different municipality in Chittenden County, use the Office website link to the state municipal directory, identify the city/town where the parcel lies, and ask its clerk or treasurer for the responsible delinquent-tax collector.
For Burlington property, use Property Taxes and contact the Clerk’s Office for balances. Its FAQ expressly warns that amounts shown on the online payment site do not reflect actual amounts due; use propertytaxes@burlingtonvt.gov or 802-865-7000 for balance inquiries.
Request an existing delinquent real-property report, year-by-year account history or current payoff, giving the municipality, parcel/account identifier if known, tax years, desired as-of date and preferred inspection or electronic-copy format. Ask which existing record is available and obtain an estimate for copies, extracts or certification before ordering. Published office email: propertytaxes@burlingtonvt.gov.
What to ask for
“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Chittenden County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”
Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.
County-specific notes
The payment guidance requests a parcel ID in 000-0-000-000 format and provides a separate property database for identifying it. No parcel query was submitted. A payment screen or assessed-value record is not a verified payoff. Burlington, Essex Town and Essex Junction City are separate municipalities; Essex County is a different jurisdiction. Office website: January 2026 state municipal directory. Choose local contacts rather than the separate county-clerk list. Source review verifies access guidance, not taxpayer liability. No taxpayer query, payment, registration or records-request submission was made; no owner-level rows are republished.
