PROPERTY TAX RESEARCH, MADE SIMPLER
Clay County, South Dakota
Where to look, which office to contact, and how to request records.
Where to obtain records
Clay County Treasurer / Property Tax
County tax-records access guidanceHow to find the information
Treasurer provides a county-specific Transcendent real-property portal and expressly offers real-estate/mobile-home tax information to requesters. It identifies responsibility for delinquent collection procedures. Use the treasury office for current unpaid history or a dated payoff.
To request an existing delinquent real-property report, parcel account/payment ledger, bill copy or dated redemption/payoff calculation, provide the county parcel/Tax ID if known, tax years and payable years, desired as-of date and preferred inspection or electronic-copy format. Ask whether the record includes special assessments, tax certificates, interest, penalties and costs. Confirm any copy, certification or extract charge and ask for an existing report rather than assuming the office creates custom lists. A valuation, payment screen, dated publication or tax-deed record does not certify today’s unpaid balance.
What to ask for
“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Clay County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”
Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.
