Where to obtain records

Washington County municipal Tax Collectors — choose the city or town

State directory of municipal tax collectors

How to find the information

Start with the city or town where the property is located. The state directory button lists municipal tax collectors; this county page groups the 9 relevant municipalities below. For an existing delinquent real-property report, payment history or current payoff, specify the municipality, parcel/account or plat/lot identifier if known, tax years, desired as-of date and inspection or electronic-copy format. Ask which existing record is available and request a fee estimate for any copies, export or certification.

Charlestown — 401-364-1234. Official route: https://charlestownri.gov/taxcollector. Use the town Tax Collector for municipal taxes and account questions. A fire-district tax office is a separate collector, so identify the taxing authority on the bill before requesting a payoff or delinquency report.

Exeter — 401-294-4864. Official route: https://www.exeterri.gov/collector. Use the current collector phone 401-294-4864. The state business directory repeats Charlestown’s 401-364-1234 in its Exeter row; that number is not used here. Ask for existing real-property payment history or unpaid years.

Hopkinton — 401-377-7781. Official route: https://www.hopkintonri.gov/Tax-Collector. The collector page links Tax Bill Collection Information and a Tax Sale May 6, 2026 notice. That sale date is already past; confirm present account status or ask for the more recent existing delinquency file.

Narragansett — 401-782-0628. Official route: https://narragansettri.gov/294/Tax-Collection. The current Tax Collection page gives 401-782-0628 and a Municipal Lien Certificate request form. This differs from older directory contacts; use collection records rather than the assessor’s online valuation database.

New Shoreham — 401-466-3230. Official route: https://www.newshorehamri.gov/326/Tax-Collection. Use Tax Collection for Block Island/New Shoreham accounts, rather than Tax Assessment. The town publishes a dedicated tax-collector contact; a valuation record alone does not show unpaid taxes.

North Kingstown — 401-294-3331 ext. 144. Official route: https://www.northkingstownri.gov/156/Finance. Finance oversees collections; its director’s published extension is 144. The town’s tax-rate guidance directs bill, payment and overdue-notice questions to Finance/Tax Collector and distinguishes the Munis tax-bill route from assessment data.

Richmond — 401-539-9000 (ask for Tax Collections). Official route: https://www.richmondri.gov/146/Tax-Collections. Use the current .gov Tax Collections page, replacing the older .com route. Request the existing delinquent real-estate report, account payment history or a payoff and confirm any copying or certification fees.

South Kingstown — 401-789-9331 ext. 1215. Official route: https://www.southkingstownri.gov/161/Tax-Utility-Collection. The collector’s dedicated extension is 1215. Its page separates billing/payment information and Delinquent Collection Procedures. Specify real estate rather than utility charges, and distinguish a payment option from a full unpaid-account report.

Westerly — 401-348-2522. Official route: https://www.westerlyri.gov/171/Tax-Collection. The collector page expressly directs tax-balance and payoff requests to taxinfo@westerlyri.gov. It also processes Municipal Lien Certificates and utility payments; identify the property-tax scope when requesting records.

What to ask for

“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Washington County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”

Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.

County-specific notes

The Office website link opens the RI.gov Cities & Towns directory. For recorded instruments, RI.gov also provides Land Records / Tax Assessments at https://www.ri.gov/towns/landtaxdata/ and directs users to each municipal Town/City Clerk. Do not substitute tax assessments for collection balances or assume a historical lien, tax-sale notice, sold list or redemption list is the full current unpaid-account population. No account query, payment, registration or records-request submission was performed. No owner-level tax rows were downloaded or republished. Reviewed status applies to the access guide, not taxpayer liability.

An independent directory, not a government agency.

We help you locate records; we do not store taxpayer lists, determine delinquency, collect taxes, or sell tax liens. Confirm balances, payment status, deadlines, and fees with the responsible office. A tax-sale list is not a complete list of delinquent accounts.
