Newport County municipal Tax Collectors — choose the city or town

State directory of municipal tax collectors

Office website →

How to find the information

Start with the city or town where the property is located. The state directory button lists municipal tax collectors; this county page groups the 6 relevant municipalities below. For an existing delinquent real-property report, payment history or current payoff, specify the municipality, parcel/account or plat/lot identifier if known, tax years, desired as-of date and inspection or electronic-copy format. Ask which existing record is available and request a fee estimate for any copies, export or certification.

Jamestown — 401-423-7200 (Town Hall; ask for Tax Collector). Official route: https://jamestownri.gov/taxcollector. The current Tax Collector page provides Pay Your Taxes and current bill guidance. The number here is the published Town Hall switchboard, not a confirmed collector direct line; ask for account records and current payoff assistance.

Little Compton — 401-635-4219. Official route: https://littlecomptonri.org/departments/treasurer/index.php. The Treasurer also serves as Tax Collector and links online tax payments. The town explains that real-estate taxes are paid in arrears; distinguish the tax period from the installment payment date when requesting history.

Middletown — 401-847-0193. Official route: https://www.middletownri.gov/331/Tax-Collections. Use Tax Collections, rather than the Tax Assessor page linked by the state business directory. Ask about access to account/bill records and any account number or PIN requirements before assuming a payment portal is a public delinquency search.

Newport — 401-845-5401. Official route: https://www.newportri.gov/city-hall/departments/finance/tax-billing-and-collections. The City of Newport collection office has moved to the newportri.gov domain. Its accounts cover the city only; Jamestown, Middletown, Portsmouth, Tiverton and Little Compton have separate collectors.

Portsmouth — 401-683-1214. Official route: https://www.portsmouthri.gov/165/Tax-Assessment-Collections. Tax Assessment & Collections combines different functions on one page. Request collection/payment records for unpaid taxes, not just assessed values or ownership records. This is Portsmouth, Rhode Island, not Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Tiverton — 401-625-6706. Official route: https://www.tiverton.ri.gov/212/Tax-Collector. The current Tax Collector page handles Municipal Lien Certificate requests and tax-account questions. Its old departments/taxcollector.php link is obsolete; confirm certification charges separately from online-payment transaction fees.

What to ask for

“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Newport County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”

Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.

County-specific notes

The Office website link opens the RI.gov Cities & Towns directory. For recorded instruments, RI.gov also provides Land Records / Tax Assessments at https://www.ri.gov/towns/landtaxdata/ and directs users to each municipal Town/City Clerk. Do not substitute tax assessments for collection balances or assume a historical lien, tax-sale notice, sold list or redemption list is the full current unpaid-account population. City of Newport accounts cover only that city; the other five municipalities have their own collectors. No account query, payment, registration or records-request submission was performed. No owner-level tax rows were downloaded or republished. Reviewed status applies to the access guide, not taxpayer liability.

We help you locate records; we do not store taxpayer lists, determine delinquency, collect taxes, or sell tax liens. Confirm balances, payment status, deadlines, and fees with the responsible office. A tax-sale list is not a complete list of delinquent accounts.
