Where to obtain records

Bates County Treasurer and Ex Officio Collector of Revenue

Official property-tax record-access guidance

How to find the information

The combined Collector/Treasurer explicitly says primary tax records are held for public use within the office. Request inspection or a copy of the existing delinquent real-estate ledger at 103 West Dakota, Room 2, Butler. The office also handles the delinquent real-estate certificate sale; request its dated publication separately. The published office closes at midday, so confirm visiting arrangements.

For an existing record, give the parcel/account or locator number if known, the tax years and desired as-of date. Specify an unpaid real-estate collection ledger, annual delinquent land list, dated sale publication, certificate/sale result, redemption calculation or surplus/proceeds claim and disbursement record. Ask the office to identify the custodian when the requested court or proceeds record is held elsewhere. Confirm which interest, penalties, assessments, costs and later payments are included. Ask for existing records and available formats; do not assume a custom report will be created. Confirm inspection, electronic-copy, certification and extraction charges before ordering.

What to ask for

“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Bates County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”

Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.

County-specific notes

Verified denotes reviewed published access guidance, including explicit staff-only record routes; it does not certify a taxpayer search result. Reviewed October 28, 2026. Ordinary annual bills, unpaid ledgers, dated advertised sale lists, certificates, redemption records and surplus proceeds have different scope. A past sale date is not an upcoming event. Confirm subsequent payments and the exact record date with the custodian. No taxpayer search, owner-list reproduction, records-request submission, account registration, auction enrollment or payment occurred.

We help you locate records; we do not store taxpayer lists, determine delinquency, collect taxes, or sell tax liens. Confirm balances, payment status, deadlines, and fees with the responsible office. A tax-sale list is not a complete list of delinquent accounts.
