PROPERTY TAX RESEARCH, MADE SIMPLER
Suffolk County, Massachusetts
Where to look, which office to contact, and how to request records.
Where to obtain records
Suffolk County local routing; example: Boston Tax Collection / Collector-Treasurer
Example: Boston tax-records guidanceHow to find the information
Identify the city or town where the parcel lies. The municipal example below concerns Boston. For another locality in Suffolk County, the Office website link opens the state city/town directory; use its municipal department link to locate the Collector and, where separate, the Treasurer/Tax Title office.
For Boston property, use Tax Collection at 617-635-4131 or collecting@boston.gov. The city identifies current/delinquent tax collection, tax-taking records, Municipal Lien Certificates and redemption certificates as collection-office functions.
For an existing delinquent real-estate report, account/payment history or current payoff, state the municipality, parcel or map/block/lot identifier if known, tax years, desired as-of date and preferred inspection or electronic-copy format. Ask whether the record covers ordinary unpaid bills, Tax Title accounts or foreclosed property, and confirm any copying, extract or certification charge before ordering.
What to ask for
“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Suffolk County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”
Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.
County-specific notes
Boston Law Department guidance separately directs Tax Title balances, previous payment application and redemption-instrument requests to the Collector-Treasurer rather than the general Law desk. A fiscal-year tax-taking notice is date-specific, not a live balance feed. Boston does not hold Chelsea, Revere or Winthrop municipal accounts; select the correct Suffolk County locality. Reviewed status concerns source/access guidance, not taxpayer liability. No taxpayer query, payment, account registration or records-request submission was made; no taxpayer rows are included in this import.
