Washington County, Maine
Where to look, which office to contact, and how to request records.
Where to obtain records
Washington County local routing; example: Machias Town Clerk / Tax Collector
Example: Machias tax-records guidanceHow to find the information
Start with the municipality where the property lies. The reviewed example below covers Machias only. For another locality in Washington County, use the Office website link to Maine.gov’s local directory, identify the correct city/town, and ask its clerk or tax collector for the custodian of delinquent real-property records.
For Machias property, use Town Clerk’s Office. The municipal page identifies the Clerk as Tax Collector and publishes 207-255-6621/8683, the office location and contact hours. Ask for the existing real-property delinquency record or account history.
For an existing delinquent real-estate report, payment history or current payoff, provide the municipality, parcel/account or map/lot identifier if known, tax years, desired as-of date and preferred inspection or electronic-copy format. Ask which existing record is available and obtain a fee estimate for copies, extracts or certification before ordering.
Unorganized Territory property: use Maine Revenue Services at https://www.maine.gov/revenue/taxes/property-tax/unorganized-territory. Request the existing account or delinquency record for the township, plan/lot, tax years and desired as-of date. Property Tax Division contact: 207-624-5600; prop.tax@maine.gov. Confirm access and any fees before ordering.
What to ask for
“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Washington County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”
Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.
County-specific notes
The page was reviewed through public web retrieval after the direct request did not complete; that does not establish permanent unavailability. The Assessing Department is a separate route for property valuation. Machias and East Machias are different municipalities, and township property may use the state Unorganized Territory office instead. Maine.gov’s local directory is a routing resource; municipal clerks are not automatically the tax-record custodian. The state clerk directory is also available at https://www.maine.gov/sos/elections-voting/find-a-municipal-clerk-or-registrar. Reviewed status applies to source/access guidance, not taxpayer liability. No taxpayer search, payment, registration or records request was submitted; no owner-level rows were downloaded or republished.
