Where to obtain records
Somerset County local routing; example: Skowhegan Town Clerk & Treasurer — collection staff
Example: Skowhegan tax-records guidanceHow to find the information
Start with the municipality where the property lies. The reviewed example below covers Skowhegan only. For another locality in Somerset County, use the Office website link to Maine.gov’s local directory, identify the correct city/town, and ask its clerk or tax collector for the custodian of delinquent real-property records.
For Skowhegan property, use Town Clerk & Treasurer. The current staff directory lists the Deputy Tax Collector and collection staff at 207-474-6900; ask for the existing delinquent real-property report, payment history or current payoff.
For an existing delinquent real-estate report, payment history or current payoff, provide the municipality, parcel/account or map/lot identifier if known, tax years, desired as-of date and preferred inspection or electronic-copy format. Ask which existing record is available and obtain a fee estimate for copies, extracts or certification before ordering.
Unorganized Territory property: use Maine Revenue Services at https://www.maine.gov/revenue/taxes/property-tax/unorganized-territory. Request the existing account or delinquency record for the township, plan/lot, tax years and desired as-of date. Property Tax Division contact: 207-624-5600; prop.tax@maine.gov. Confirm access and any fees before ordering.
What to ask for
“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Somerset County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”
Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.
County-specific notes
The department landing page still displays a 2024 tax-rate figure and an older office contact. Those details are not reused here as current rates or deadlines; the staff-directory number is used for routing. Tax maps and an installment-payment club do not establish a complete unpaid-account search. Skowhegan does not maintain every Somerset County municipal account. Maine.gov’s local directory is a routing resource; municipal clerks are not automatically the tax-record custodian. The state clerk directory is also available at https://www.maine.gov/sos/elections-voting/find-a-municipal-clerk-or-registrar. Reviewed status applies to source/access guidance, not taxpayer liability. No taxpayer search, payment, registration or records request was submitted; no owner-level rows were downloaded or republished.
