Where to obtain records
Kennebec County local routing; example: Monmouth Town Clerk / Tax Collector
Example: Monmouth tax-records guidanceHow to find the information
Start with the municipality where the property lies. The reviewed example below covers Monmouth only. For another locality in Kennebec County, use the Office website link to Maine.gov’s local directory, identify the correct city/town, and ask its clerk or tax collector for the custodian of delinquent real-property records.
For Monmouth property, use Town Clerk & Tax Collector. The current page publishes 207-481-9400 and specifically directs tax-information requests to sjones@monmouthmaine.gov. It lists a deputy tax collector and a separate 2026 Tax Commitment link.
For an existing delinquent real-estate report, payment history or current payoff, provide the municipality, parcel/account or map/lot identifier if known, tax years, desired as-of date and preferred inspection or electronic-copy format. Ask which existing record is available and obtain a fee estimate for copies, extracts or certification before ordering. Published office email: sjones@monmouthmaine.gov.
Unorganized Territory property: use Maine Revenue Services at https://www.maine.gov/revenue/taxes/property-tax/unorganized-territory. Request the existing account or delinquency record for the township, plan/lot, tax years and desired as-of date. Property Tax Division contact: 207-624-5600; prop.tax@maine.gov. Confirm access and any fees before ordering.
What to ask for
“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Kennebec County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”
Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.
County-specific notes
The published commitment and due dates do not certify whether individual accounts remain unpaid. Ask for the existing delinquent real-estate report or payment history for the relevant years. This guide uses the town’s current published phone, not an older directory number. Monmouth does not hold all Kennebec County tax accounts. Maine.gov’s local directory is a routing resource; municipal clerks are not automatically the tax-record custodian. The state clerk directory is also available at https://www.maine.gov/sos/elections-voting/find-a-municipal-clerk-or-registrar. Reviewed status applies to source/access guidance, not taxpayer liability. No taxpayer search, payment, registration or records request was submitted; no owner-level rows were downloaded or republished.
