PROPERTY TAX RESEARCH, MADE SIMPLER
Cherokee County, Iowa
Where to look, which office to contact, and how to request records.
Where to obtain records
Cherokee County Treasurer / Property Tax and Tax-Sale Records
County Treasurer-authored access and contact guideHow to find the information
The county links its property-tax portal separately from 2026 Notice to Tax Sale Purchasers. The receipt number for eCheck is described as being at the bottom center of the statement. It also warns that special assessments may appear on statements and may not be covered by escrow companies; request an itemized existing ledger when necessary.
For an existing-record request, specify the parcel number, assessment/tax year, payable year and desired as-of date. Distinguish an ordinary collection ledger, dated delinquency publication, tax-sale certificate history and a dated redemption quote. Ask whether special assessments, drainage charges, subsequent taxes, penalties, costs and recent payments are included. Confirm inspection, electronic-copy, certification, research and extract charges with the Treasurer. Assessed values, a payment receipt and an advertised sale amount have different scope from a complete current unpaid balance.
What to ask for
“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Cherokee County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”
Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.
