PROPERTY TAX RESEARCH, MADE SIMPLER
McLean County, Illinois
Where to look, which office to contact, and how to request records.
Where to obtain records
McLean County Treasurer / Collector; County Clerk for sold-tax redemption
Official county tax-records access guidanceHow to find the information
Tax Information for Property Owners separates Sold Taxes (delinquent/back taxes), handled by the County Clerk, from current-year collection. Request the Clerk’s dated redemption amount for sold taxes. The Treasurer’s account-information page warns that its web view does not detail who paid or whether payment occurred because the taxes were sold.
To obtain existing unpaid-tax records, provide the parcel/PIN, tax year, payable year and desired as-of date. Specify whether you need current collection history, the annual delinquency publication, tax-sale/certificate history or a dated redemption estimate. Ask whether subsequent taxes, interest, penalties, costs and recent payments are included. Confirm inspection, electronic-copy, research, certification and extract fees with the office. Assessor valuations, ordinary property sales, trustee-auction catalogs and payment receipts do not by themselves certify every unpaid obligation.
What to ask for
“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for McLean County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”
Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.
County-specific notes
A bill marked paid in the collection view may not explain the remaining sold-tax obligation. Ask for the underlying account/sale record and current Clerk estimate before drawing that conclusion. Reviewed October 28, 2026. County notices can change, and older calendars remain on some sites. No taxpayer query, CAPTCHA completion, account registration, record-request submission, bidder enrollment, upload or payment was performed. No owner-list attachments or taxpayer rows are included.
