How to find the information

Begin with the Department of Health’s published Kalaupapa/Kalawao guidance to identify the responsible agency for the specific location or TMK and the period you are researching. Ask whether any existing public land-administration or tax-related record responsive to your request is held by DOH or another custodian; do not assume Maui’s tax search establishes Kalawao tax status. For DOH-held government records, the UIPA instructions require a written request with your contact details, a reasonable record description and preferred delivery format. The published coordinator is the Compliance, Hearings, and Investigations Office: doh.chio@doh.hawaii.gov; mail to 1250 Punchbowl Street, Room 210, Honolulu, HI 96813. The listed phone, 808-586-4400, is DOH’s Main Office for routing assistance, not a property-tax collection counter. Request any fee estimate before ordering copies.

What to ask for

“I am looking for publicly available delinquent real-property tax records for Kalawao County for [tax year]. Which office maintains these records? Is there an online search or downloadable list? If not, how can I request a copy, and what fees apply?”

Have the property address, parcel number, owner name, and tax year ready when searching for a particular property.

County-specific notes

The Hawaii Constitution’s Article VIII, Section 3 expressly excepts Kalawao from the ordinary county real-property-tax allocation. DOH’s official guidance identifies Kalawao under its jurisdiction/control and describes a conditional future transfer to Maui in its June 2026 legislative update. This guide does not treat that future change as already completed. These sources do not establish that every parcel is exempt, that an unpaid tax account exists, or that DOH holds a standard delinquency roll. Confirm current jurisdiction and custody with the agency rather than assigning a generic neighboring-county Treasurer. No public-records request was submitted.

An independent directory, not a government agency.

We help you locate records; we do not store taxpayer lists, determine delinquency, collect taxes, or sell tax liens. Confirm balances, payment status, deadlines, and fees with the responsible office. A tax-sale list is not a complete list of delinquent accounts.
